Our History and Mission
Pottersville was once a thriving community of skilled stoneware artisans in the early 19th century. Founded by Abner Landrum in the Edgefield District of South Carolina, Pottersville became known for its innovative alkaline-glazed stoneware and its significant role in Southern ceramic history.
The Friends of Pottersville was established to honor and extend this legacy. We support trained potters working in the Pottersville tradition, provide educational resources, and promote historical awareness of the region’s artistic and cultural contributions.
A silhouette of Abner Landrum is used with respect and recognition of his pivotal role in founding the tradition.
